About Adventures in Sweden
From canoeing and sea kayaking to gravel cycling and bikepacking, our goal is to create high quality guides, stories, and routes that inspire people to explore Sweden's landscapes responsibly and independently.
Our Story
Adventures in Sweden is an independent publishing and route development project dedicated to helping people discover Sweden through self powered adventure. From canoeing and sea kayaking to gravel cycling and bikepacking, our goal is to create high quality guides, stories, and routes that inspire people to explore Sweden's landscapes responsibly and independently.
Operating under Design Company Stockholm AB, Adventures in Sweden was founded by Michael O'Dwyer, an Irish born adventurer who has called Sweden home for almost two decades.
After years spent exploring Sweden's forests, lakes, archipelagos, and backroads, Michael began documenting his experiences through photography, storytelling, and route development.
Our Publications
What started as a passion for adventure travel has evolved into a growing collection of guidebooks and outdoor projects.
Our latest publication, Paddling in Sörmland, is a comprehensive guide to canoeing and kayaking across one of Sweden's most accessible and diverse regions.
Combining detailed route information with local history, nature, and practical advice, the book is designed to help paddlers experience Sörmland with confidence while respecting the landscapes and communities they travel through.
Current Projects
Beyond publishing, Adventures in Sweden develops new routes and experiences that encourage sustainable outdoor tourism.
The current flagship project is the development of the Kung Valdemar Trail, a long distance sea kayaking route following the historic medieval trading route between Valdemarsvik and Nynäshamn.
Supported by the LEADER programme, the project aims to combine paddling, history, culture, and nature into a unique coastal journey, with a guidebook planned for release next year.
Our Philosophy

Promote responsible access and care for the environments we explore.
Sustainable Travel
Encourage low-impact adventures that support local communities.
Quality & Authenticity
Every guide and route is built from real experience and local knowledge.
Community & Connection
Build positive relationships with local communities and landowners.
